If you’re searching for a caterer for an event you’re hosting, you probably have a lot of questions. We sure would!

The food at your event can make or break it, so we take that responsibility seriously. We want you to pepper us with questions until you’re satisfied with your menu, your budget and our catering abilities.

How can I get a price?

We realize your backyard BBQ is nothing like the family picnic we helped cater last week. Your wedding should stand out from the others your guest has gone to. Your corporate event should be delicious, but cost effective. It’s why we hesitate to give you blanket prices over the internet, though you can see the average price layout for our different catering packages by visiting our full catering menu to get an idea.

Are there discounts for children?

While we don’t have a hard and fast rule regarding our discounts for children because we have so many different catering menu options, we can say we will do everything to work with you. For example, some who we’ve worked with in the past have asked for a small, child-friendly buffet, which would run at a lower rate than the adult buffet. For others who prefer to do a plated dinner for all guests, we typically say two children will eat the same amount as one adult and price it that way. Moral of the story: we’re here to work with you and give you the best catering options within your budget.

What types of services are provided?

It depends on what types of services you’re requiring! Are you just looking for someone to make the food that you’ll pick up and set up yourself? We can do that. We can also set it up and leave, or set up the food and stay to help serve your guests. You can hire our servers to serve your guests alcohol and make mixed drinks if need be. We can even cut your cake for you if you’re not comfortable.

What is the dress code for employees?

If you’ve got a specific color scheme or dress code for your event, we can be sure to match it. In the past we’ve had our employees wear leis for luaus and referee shirts for sport-themed events. However, if you don’t have any specifications you’d like us to follow our employees typically come dressed in black button down shirts, black pants and black shoes.   

What is the minimum head count for catering services?

We can cater an intimate dinner for two at the location of your choosing or a huge event with up to 1,000 people. That being said, we will be honest with you in terms of the food options you’d like coupled with the number of people you’d need to feed. Some of our foods won’t translate well to a 1,000 person feast, like fried foods that will get soggy when produced at that scale. If you can’t live without it at your event, we’ll make it work but have an honest conversation about it.

Can you help us find flowers, DJ services, venues, etc.?

We sure can! When you call us to talk about the menu for your event, mention you’re looking for other local vendors. We can recommend several of the amazing companies we’ve worked with in the past at catering events! We’ve also written several blog posts about vendors and venues we’ve worked with and at in the past; check them out!

Can you create some of my favorite family recipes?

You bet! If there’s a food you must have at your event, we’ll figure out a way to make it, whether that’s grandma’s recipe for meatballs or your special ziti from growing up.

Do you supply alcohol or can we supply our own?

Thankfully, we have a huge selection of over 200 beers and an award-winning wine selection in our String Bean Market, so we are absolutely able to supply and serve alcohol at your event if need be. From wine and beer to mix drinks, we’re masters. However, state law and our liability insurance does not allow us to serve alcohol provided by outside entities. If you’d like to cut your event cost by supplying your own alcohol we can absolutely help you with recommendations, but we would be unable to serve the alcohol to your guests. Self-serve stations are a popular remedy in those situations.

Where do you cater?

Perhaps the better question is where don’t we cater? We’ve done events all over North and South Carolina, be it Monroe, York, Lincolnton, Hickory, Wacksaw, Charlotte, or right here in our home of Gaston County. We do typically stay within an hour radius of our location, but if you are outside of that area and want us to work with you, we will figure out a way to make it happen.

Is there a minimum order for deliveries?

This answer is a bit situational. Typically there is not, though for some of our more difficult foods we may require a minimum order to be sure we don’t waste. However, The String Bean is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so events catered on those days will need to meet a minimum price point to justify our opening to make food. You can message us or call us to talk more about catering events on days we are closed.

Can I pick up my order?

Absolutely! If you’re looking to save on your catering order, having someone pick it up rather than us deliver is a cost-saving measure.
