Six months ago, 2 year-old Sophie Brown
and her twin Isabelle were enjoying life in their new
surroundings in Indonesia . Their young parents, Steven
and Jessi, had taken up a new life with Jessi’s job and
had just moved from their home in Washington D.C. area
to begin anew. Trouble was, Sophie was not responding
to simple tasks with her sister. She began to skip meals,
became clumsy and in May, their lives changed forever.
Sophie was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Emergency surgery
was done in Singapore to relieve the pressure in the
brain. After mom and dad flew back and forth several
times between Indonesia and Singapore with Sophie finally
being stabilized, the Browns knew they had to move back
to the USA to seek the best possible medical care. So,
they did what any parent would do… everything for their
child! They gave up their job and moved back to D.C.
for the best treatment possible at DC Children's Hospital.
Since then, there has been improvement, but the battle
continues. After two surgeries and eight rounds of chemotherapy through August, Sophie’s tumor has been reduced, but she has developed an allergy to the current chemo drug and must now wait a few weeks for the doctors to find a chemotherapy drug and to begin another round of treatments. All we can do is pray. Belmont has been great to rally for a cause. We are helping promote infant brain tumor awareness and assisting the Browns in recovering the expenses associated with her recovery to beat this dreaded disease so she can enjoy her twin sister Isabelle again. Help Her Heal With a Meal. This is Sophie’s Supper. |
